How-To

TechSwap is a free, educator-led network for K–12 teachers and staff across the U.S. to share classroom technology and resources by offering and requesting donations. Here’s how to get started and make the most of our platform.

Browse Listings (No Account Needed)

  • Visit tech-swap.org to see available offers and active requests.
  • Use the search and filters to find items you or your school might need.

Create Your Account (Required to Post or Contact Others)

  • Click Sign Up and fill out your info, including your name, email, job title, and school/workplace.
  • Upload proof that you work in education (like a school ID photo or school-affiliated email). This is how we determine your Educator Status and eligibility to use the platform.
  • As part of the Sign Up process, you will self-select your Access Tier. This is a space rooted in trust and shared responsibility, so we ask everyone to self-identify thoughtfully. If you are unsure, please default to the provided suggestion.

Access Tiers (How They Work)

To prioritize educators who need resources most, your Access Tier determines how quickly you can message donors to claim items:

  • Tier 1 educators get first access to items.
  • Tier 2 educators can express interest 24 hours after posting.
  • Tier 3 educators can contact users 48 hours after posting.

Everyone can view listings immediately, but messaging access is staggered by tier.

Post an Offer or Request

  • Once logged in, go to Create Listing.
  • Choose whether you want to Offer or Request materials.
  • Fill out the form with details about the item(s), including condition, quantity, and any helpful links or images.
  • Remember: all offers must be free to claim and all listings must be for technology-related classroom materials and must comply with our Terms of Use.

Connect with Other Educators

  • Click the Express Interest button on a listing to message the poster. By doing so, your contact info (name and email) will be shared with that user (with your consent).
  • Use the messaging feature to ask questions, arrange pick-ups/shipping, offer help, or fulfill requests.
  • Always communicate respectfully and keep personal information secure.
  • Report inappropriate behavior to [email protected].

Protect Privacy

  • Do not post photos or personal information of students, minors, or any individuals without their written permission.
  • When sharing images, blur faces or any identifying details.
  • Avoid sharing sensitive or private information about anyone on the platform.
  • Respect everyone’s privacy and use discretion when posting content.

Update Your Account

  • You can update your profile info and email preferences anytime.
  • Keep your contact info current so other users can reach you.

Request Data or Account Deletion

Stay Safe

  • Arrange pick-ups or deliveries in public, safe places.
  • Use your best judgment when interacting with other users.
  • TechSwap is not responsible for exchanges or interactions. Use discretion.
